AVG Recovery Boot CD

I noticed on AVG's site they sell a nifty little Recovery Boot CD. Basically it offers both their AVG AntiVirus and SpyWare package plus some other valuable tools on a bootable recovery CD. It's priced at $150.00 and the subscription for updates is good for one year. It's geared towards IT admins and techs for low level system repair.

I could see this being a nice tool set as many times you simply cant work with removal programs (in) Windows as the memory and disk is throttled from programs already running in the background. Perhaps this would really speed up the scans and get the job done quicker? Also having the ability to remove the infected files right there from the boot cd.

Or, is it cheaper and easier to just boot the customers system in (Safe Mode) and run the normal programs separate?

Advantages - Disadvantages?

Never tried it myself. I was about to say that "Ultimate Boot CD" had a copy of a DOS based AVG on it. However, it seems they have since dropped AVG from it since the version I downloaded. If you wanna try the McAfee or FProt DOS scanners checkout http://ultimatebootcd.com/

Instead of spending $150 on that just make a BartPE or a WinPE 2.0 disc and add in some freeware/shareware that will work. Or you could juse use one that already exists like UBCD4WIN. If you look at the list of tools, http://www.ubcd4win.com/contents.htm , the first things listed are anti-spyware and anti-virus.

the price of $150 is not bad. I'm considering getting a copy to see how well their solution works. A single machine license of AVG's internet protection is ~53USD for 1 machine for 1 year. So triple the price for a single tech license is not bad at all.

don't pay $150 for it, me thinks that would be stupid when you could use UBCD or hiren's boot cd for free, and there are many other free apps. that would remove any spyware/add-ware/malware from your system as well or better.

At one point Spyware Terminator was on the bad list:

But it was removed. Since then they have really worked to make a better reputation for themselves. I still havent been willing to try it yet though, after its initial flagging by everyone as bad. But it seems like it might be worth a try again. Free real-time and free HIPS, not to bad.

Searching the correct forums for the information you find a lot of security people saying its good and that they actually run it themselves, looks like I will have to give it a try:
