I have a customer's computer that has Avast antivirus installed on it and Malware has gotten in and corrupted both some computer files and Avast. When trying uninstall Avast it gives the error (A setiface error has occured: 536870929 Try to reinstall or contact support.) The customer wants Avast removed and figure out the virus that is on the computer. My antivirus programs will not install while Avast is still there. does anyone have a suggestion of how to get rid of it? The system is running windows vista. I know bad choice of operating system needs an upgrade to 7, but customer doesn't have the money currently.

Back up the customers data first. Next download a new anti virus program, mbam, and combofix to a usb drive. Make sure the computer is not hooked up to the internet. Then use system restore to get to a point before the customer had a problem. After that uninstall avast and install the new anti virus program. Run combofix, then mbam, then the new anti virus program. After you have made sure that the system is clean delete the system restore points, temp files, cookies, etc. Create a new system restore point and then install all updates. Defragment the disk(s) upon completion.

Give revouninstaller a shot, normally does the trick.
If not if you go through the repair tools section on this very site, there is a tool that removes all antivirus products, I can't remember the name as I've never used it.
