Recently purchased a Toshiba P305-S8919, Intel Duo, ATI 4650 1gh. Problem is the screen hangs, mouse wont move, all goes black and then I get the Windows has recovered from an error with the video driver, atikmdag.sys

I have:
Reloaded the OS
Unloaded the catalyst software
Updated the driver
Backdated the driver
And removed it completely

The problem report showed some software incompatabilities, so I removed the software. Still have video hardware errors.

I am reluctant to send this unit back to the manufacturer, however that is what they want me to do. Was hoping that you guys with more tech experience would be able to give me more insight as to how to fix this problem, or tell me to just deal with it and send the unit back to the manufacturer so they can replace the motherboard.

Send it back before you do something to void your warranty (if you haven't already). Your 2nd best option would be to take it to a qualified PC technician but you'll pay for that, the warranty should be free.
