Are you a gamer? Would you consider yourself to be "hardcore?"

If so what games do you play, whats your favourite and how many hours have you spent playing each?

I used to be, not as much of late. I know how much you love L4D2, and how crap I am @ it lol.

I have about 30 Games via steam - some new additions are Green Hell & C&C Remastered.
Lately have been playing Alien Isolation, Doom Eternal & The Outer Worlds.

I mostly kick back on the PS4 after work to get away from PC - On that I have about 20 Games.
I put a 1TB HDD when I purchased it. Mainly play RD2 online, Horizon : Zero Dawn, God of War, Divinity 2 & FIFA20.

ahhh Crysis - I modded the heck outa that game. Made some custom Characters, models & maps.

I had to give up L4D2, my eyes just aren't up to the task anymore.

And if I tallied up all the hours I lost to something in Steam... well let's just say it's embarrassing. Games are what got me into this field, and I still play them regularly.

Mostly PS4 here, on PC i only play football manager (since championship manager 2 and when SI Games became a separate thing and created FM on 2012?), on PlayStation (since 98) i love to play RPG games (final fantasy saga, dragon quest saga, ni no kuni, etc) fifa, uncharted and lots of other games, i do not now how many hours I have invested in those games , really don’t care lol, currently playing Dragon Quest XI Echoes of an elusive age PS4

PSN ID: overburnz feel free to add to friends with technible tag on message :)

I enjoyed playing Lemmings and The Incredible Machine back in the day -- Does that count? ;)

Oh, and Outrun -- Loved playing that in the arcades on the 'sit-in' machines, especially the ones that had simulated movement and wind.

Other than that, nope.

I can't stand modern games. You have to memorize so many controls/combos and there are so many cut scenes it's just not fun anymore. I miss buying a cartridge game, plugging it in, and immediately starting to play within 2 minutes. Cut scenes and tutorials were virtually non-existent and it didn't feel like WORK in order to play the game.

This is why I'm a retro gamer. The most modern game I play is Skyrim/Fable (the original). For some reason, those controls were easy to master and I can pick them back up after MONTHS of not playing. And learning them wasn't a freaking chore. I couldn't even play Minecraft. After a freaking hour of tutorial and trying to memorize a billion controls/buttons/menus, I just gave up. I'm lucky if I even HAVE an hour when I sit down to play, and I frequently go months between playing games. Modern games just aren't practical for me.

Yes, we've asked for a gaming section in the past with no luck but I understand that's not what this forum is about.

I game quite a bit with my daughter (mid-twenties). Currently it's Ghost Recon Wildlands (one of my all time favorites). She likes stealth and up close and personal melee while I sit up on the side of a mountain and clear the way and keep an eye on her with the longest gun and scope I can muster. We've also played Destiny 2 this way recently. In the past Quake 3, Unreal Tournament, etc. have all been played together.

I still play a fair amount of Team Fortress 2 (online only) even though it is over a decade old. Past favorites include the Far Cry series, Crysis, Doom, Sniper Ghost Warrior, Wolfenstein, Metal Gear Solid 5, Titanfall 2 and I'm sure I've forgot more than I remembered.

I'm planning on a new gaming build for this winter. I will probably base it around a used GTX 1080 video card and maybe a Ryzen 5.

My wife and I still play Everquest together after 20+ years. She still likes Starcraft too. I'd rather solve a coding problem or a logic puzzle than play most modern games.

New MS Flight comes on 9 Dual Dvd, 90GB! I love flight sims, Have a Thrustmaster Hotas setup. Enjoy space sims as well. Played the heck out of freelancer back in the day.

Yes, the first personal computer game I played was Frogger on the Apple][ and I've been playing ever since. Currently on Borderlands 3 and The Outer Worlds. Always on PC, always keyboard and mouse though I'm planning on learning to use a controller as I'd like to play in the living room. Don't like MMOs.

I used to be HUGE into online gaming. Started in the Win3 days...with some basic games, Mechwarrior, MonsterTruck, I forget which 1st person. But when Quake 1 came out, early Win95 days....BOOM...got hooked. I remember that game..Quake 1..is what got me back into computers as a hobby. Especially "GL Quake"...with the opengl graphics and the first Voodoo gaming card. And with Quake 1's first true 3D game engine..running on gorgeous GL graphics..I was hooked!

Joined a clan...we used to do tournaments. The clan was named from a classic old movie, Clockwork Orange. Everyones name in the clan had to state with "YeOlde"....and since my online nickname (from the college days) was Stonecat....YeOldeStonecat was formed. I've been that every since as my online alias. I swear I was playing that over a dozen to 20 hours a day...for a long time.

Then Quake 2 came out. I played on a server that my ISPs owners ran. This dial up ISP was fairly local..and focused on "high performance for gamers". Some other guys played there...they formed a clan, and they started using some of the early "ZBots". (aim bots). I was able to go toe to toe with them with my own skills...and we used to get into huge "shouting wars" on that server. Shortly after, one of them was complaining about lag...and I chatted with them in game about tuning up COM ports to improve dial up, and some patches for Windows 95 that my friend Philip wrote (from www.speedguide.net). He was appreciative...and one day I met a bunch of them (since they used that same small dial up ISP and were within an hour drive)...at a bar. We became good friends after that.

We got to know the owners of the ISP...and we got together and took over running their Quake 2 server. We formed a clan named after "zbots"...called "Zombie Battalion". I then built some custom game servers..and we had access to the data center of the ISP and co located our servers there. This is now in the early days of broadband.

I used that same ISP as my DSL provider when they offered it. Even though their data center was one and a half hours away from my house, I had a ping of 10 to the game server. Literally 1x hop away. :) I'd been to LAN parties with more lag! My gaming addiction intensified!

Speaking of LAN parties...yeah we organized some big ones. Growing in size, culminating into some large events where we rented out convention centers..(being up in Connecticut) people coming from all the way south...Georgia, Florida, and coming down from Canada. Was a lot of fun..we'd game for 2 to sometimes 3 days straight. Days later still have a hoarse voice from all the yelling with CTF games.

Half Life....Unreal and Unreal Tournament came next. Quake 2 still held our favor...until Unreal Tournament really got going. And then we shifted over to that..it got very popular. I built a new higher performance game server just for Unreal Tournament....and with the Zombie Battalion..that server made it into the "NG Stats Top 20 Unreal Tournament Servers of the World" list for years...peaking at #16 slot. NG Stats kept a list of servers listed by popularity....we were pretty happy about that.

Various Call of Duty games, Return to Castle Wolf, they were added to our server.

And then when Battlefield 1942 came out.....Zombie Battalion wasn't too into that but I was. And a few forum members over at www.speedguide.net, which I was a moderator at. So we formed a Battlefield 1942 server....well, we focused on Desert Combat. And Vietnam, and a few other mods like Forgotten Hope. I built that server and co located it at our office where I worked...as in our early days of where I am now, we had out office located in a small specialized data center for business servers. So there was an OC-3 line in there...(later upgraded to more).

Public gaming servers as a business...not really profitable...you'd barely cover your costs. On the small scale that I was doing it...and I was only doing it really to cover costs and provide a fun place for friends and their friends to play.

Battlefield 2 and onwards...EA started wrapping their heads around the game and only hosting themselves....not allowing private servers. And I started losing interest in the newer versions of Battlefield.

And...pretty much, gaming after that started fading away for me....I slowly lost interest. For a short period I got into Quake III online, Q3DM17..what was it called, "The Longest Yard"? I still dominated the online servers in my old age! I probably haven't fired it up in over 10 years now.

Early on my son just loved console games, but once I got him into Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat, and Vietnam...he got hooked and graduated to computer gaming. He's been HUGE into it since then, still REALLY into gaming. Just just went through another custom PC build last week.

I've got a little Cougar lying by my sides ;)

Freelancer... wow that's some memories. I lost buckets of time into a mod of Freelancer called Total War.

Take Freelancer, remove all but 4 star systems. The first, is an orphan system... a training zone. You buy a bribe in the neutral base in the middle to pick your faction in the real game. Then you get booted out, and when you reconnect your inventory is now reset to whatever the starting gear for your chosen faction is. Go forth... buy insurance for yourself because when you die... everything is gone. You get NOTHING. If you don't have enough cash to buy a new ship... well... you get to start over. And that means another 5-8 hours in the noob system.

The game had its own server software that synchronized game files to all the clients that connected, this included a rather effective anti-cheat system at the time. In a lot of ways it was an early MMO, just privately hosted. I still talk to the people I met back then, the daughter that was born as the scene was drying up is now almost 16.

Now I feel old... I'm sure I'll feel older later, but for now I just feel old. LOL

Yeah I game more now than I ever used to. Things on the business side have slowed down for me.

Counter-Strike Global Offensive is my main game. Assassins Creed and L4D2 I also play.

I am absolutely a game and the best games for me is total war series, conquer the whole world with huge armies and huge battles is my favorite, then the best in this series is total Warhammer 2 Mortal Empires because just like what everyone said the diversity of factions/races. Name me a game where you can have dinosaurs fight dragons or dinosaurs eating zombies. Orcs fighting evil Vikings.

I have posted about Quake III here before, I loved that game. I have joined up on the online Quake and am an idiot and can't figure out how to join other teams so I can play CTF lol. I could easily pick it up again.
