Anyone using Synology units + backup to Amazon S3?

I'm curious to know what your upload speeds are like and what your connection type is. We've got a client with a Synology 1512+ and a 50/50 fiber connection but we've got extremely slow upload speeds to Amazon S3. Started a backup job at 10:12am and by 10:43am it had only uploaded 10MB of data. Anyone else use this and if so is your upload speeds consistent with mine or is it a lot quicker?

Hopefully those who reply to the thread has actual every day experience with using a Synology device as well as it backing up to Amazon S3.

You know in life I don't know every thing and I personally love confirmation, something that can say listen, you're not crazy, that's not normal, yes, we do get faster uploads than that, you know that kinda stuff. I'm sure we are all different but that's just me. Hopefully you can reply back if you have actual experience with using a Synology device with Amazon S3. A simple confirmation of nah we don't see those kinda speeds, it's much faster or yes, that's consistent with what we've encountered would be ideal. Thank you.

TEN MEGABYTES in 30 minutes ? Is this the 1990's ? You don't think that's a serious problem ?

Are you backing up directly via Synologys BACKUP software or are you moving backed up data from the device via something else ? That speed is horribly slow, hell it might even be dial up speed.

Thanks Jimbo!

I guess this didn't matter :

"Are you backing up directly via Synologys BACKUP software or are you moving backed up data from the device via something else ?"

Well, good luck finding the solution.

Sorry man I didn't see that. I miss things too sometimes. I am backing up from the Backup & Recovery application that comes with DSM. We are on DSM 5 latest.

What speeds do you get with general speed tests? Have you tested upload speeds to the S3 bucket outside of the synology?

We were seeing similar speeds but I just went back to test it again and we're seeing much quicker speeds uploading on the same network direct through the S3 website. Well I opened a ticket with Synology so I'll wait and see what they have to say. Making some progress though.

I have a company backing to Amazon S3 in Ireland. They only have a 4mb line but I've backed 20GB+ over a weekend before. I will check the stats when I get a chance.

I will be following this as I will be setting up a sinology unit to backup to S3 for an associates' office this coming week.

I hope my experience is better

Just did two DS412+ units and had some unexpected slowness- first slow aspect is actually just Backup Exec 2010 being a big poop. It's going about 30MB/s on LAN, too slow for my tastes but oh well.

Second problem was the Network Share Replication was going at about 4.5MB/s over the LAN! WTH? So I set up Cloudstation at another nibbler's recommendation to test, and it's zipping at about 60MB/s. Hmm, maybe there's some issues with this DSM version. Both are DSM5 latest build

When you first started the backup it probably spent 28 minutes indexing the files and had just started transferring them...
