A few years back I used to be a contractor for BMC solutions and would do their Dell installations within 100 miles from where I live. The last job I had with them was a huge school district and I ended up having issues with the project manager and one of the other contractors (I wouldn't lie about working a full day when I only was working 1/2 day).

So, after talking to HR dept at BMC and telling them the reason for the argument between the manager and other contractor (They wanted to "stretch" the project out and were working us 1/2 day (4 hours) instead of the 10 hours were were supposed to work) I was told that they would no longer assign contracts to me because of the "infraction".

So, I basically got fired b/c I wouldn't steal 6 hours a day from the company.

I'm wondering if there are any other firms that do large installations for Dell, HP/Compaq or IBM. Can anyone refer me to a contractor or company?

Thanks

I've done jobs for Go2IT group out of Ohio, never had any problems getting paid, they've always paid me for the time I've worked. www.go2itgroup.com, my only complaint, is that they do the 1099's at the end of the year, and they were kinda limited on jobs in OKC, but i'm not complain as it did pay my bills till i found my job at Walmart.

Wow, your a computer tek and working at Wallyworld? Are you doing tech support for them or working in the computer Isle? What do they pay (roughly)? I have 8 years corporate IT experience and 5 years sales @ Circuit City..

Right now, I'm making about $9.40 an hour, but I also work in produce only because I'm not A+ Certified or anything. I had gotten a job at a local computer place in august, but that didn't really work out well for them or me. But I am working on going full force into my business as far as advertising, trying to bring in enough income to leave walmart and do computer work full time.

If I were you, you need to get that A+ and some other certs. MCP and maybe Dell. After that join OnForce. They don't have a ton of jobs (well at least not in my area) But they will pay you much better than Wally World. Something to supplement your income until your business is doing better. I wish they had more jobs in my area. I do as many as I can. But I can do 1 AT&T job for $85 that lasts 2 hours and that is better than $9.40 for 8 hours.

I'm planning on getting my A+ certs before the end of the year, and I do understand. I just don't like the 1099's, I'd rather have the W2's than anything else. At least for right now, the pay is paying my mortgage among other things.

Hats off to your for going to work and paying the bills while trying to get the big job you want. So many people now days sit on their butts and cry about not having their dream job.

I've always said and mean it, that if my business collapsed tomorrow and I didn't have money to pay the bills, I'd be applying at Walmart. I'm not above that. You do what you have to do! Good luck sir.

yeah i used to do jobs for HP corporate. HP subcontracts to EDS, which contracts to yet ANOTHER company........making the hourly rate approx 14-18/hour....but the jobs were poorly organized and overstaffed and paid well for a bunch of mindless work....This was 5 years ago when I had no clients and needed to pay the bills.
