Great idea! Anybody know where the approximate North American center of our demographics is? Somewhere equidistant for east and west coasters, reasonably near a major metropolitan airport, late spring, early summer, or early fall for good weather.

If we coordinate with those in the UK and the AUS/NZ folks, perhaps we can set up a video conference? Somehow, I suspect at least one or two of us have the skills to do that... :)

Well, the geographic center of the contiguous US is Lebanon, Kansas. This would probably work out for our Canadian brethren as most of them are along the US/Canada border. If not, maybe somewhere in Nebraska or South Dakota.

Annual Meeting

I suggest another option ... how about multiple conferences ( sorta something like 2600 does ETC ETC ) one in NY one in LA and one in the middle of the country .... we can get 3 site organizers and as suggested setup video conferencing between the events and even do so with the overseas conferences as well ... it just makes alot better financial sense and allows for people to get involved ... maybe even open a chat ( video based ) system for those that could not attend and allow them to remotely connect to the conference as well ... This is something that would make it possible for all to attend ... ANY idea ?

Midnite
:D

I'm down for whatever, anything to get out of Jersey for a little bit :)

Vegas would be sweet, I've never been there....

Yuck. At any rate, airfare would be expensive, since these are not on major air routes or hubs. I'm thinking Chicago, Detroit (very close for our Canadian friends in Ontario), Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Nashville, Memphis, St. Louis.

Vegas wouldn't be a bad option, as I hear their tourism income has taken a nosedive in the current economy and they're hurting for business. Or, maybe Washington D.C., if people also want to tour the capitol.

The last time I was in Las Vegas (mid 90's), airfare was $59, the casino hotels were $35/night, one could eat three (mediocre) meals for less than $20 and the drinks were free inside the casinos.

I've heard talk of a video conference before .. It wasn't in thread; it was all through PM. And it was supposed to be more of a "Knights of the Round Table" sort of thing, with just all the most senior members invited in, once a month to talk about 'stuff'

I've always liked the idea of a IRC channel for TN ... But some were against the idea because they thought that they might be takin' it away from the forums and most questions asked in the channel.
I thought the channel would of been a good idea just to chat ...

"hows your day goin"
"hows the weather"
"what you workin' on at the moment?"
etc etc

.... Just friendly conversation =) Leavin' the geek speak for the forums ..

My $0.02 anyway

Indianapolis, St Louis or Chicago would work great.

I'm about 2½hrs drive south of Chicago. Angry Geek is another 4hrs south of me. If my memory of Michigan geography hasn't gone haywire, you're about 2½-3 hours from Chicago

Chicago is about a 4½hr drive from Detroit. Add another hour or two for the folks from southern Ontario. Indianapolis would be another hour and a half. Anything at about 6-7 hr drive is do-able. Further than that, air travel is probably best.

Indianapolis might be a better choice, since flying into Chicago really sucks, no matter which airport (Midway or O'Hare), and Indianapolis has a nice international airport that isn't a million miles away from city center and is easy to get in and out of.

Indy would be cool. It's only about 4 hours for me, maybe a little less depending on traffic. Chicago is about 5 - 6 hours depending on traffic and construction. St. Louis is only 2 hours. St. Louis and Indianapolis are both very easy and usually pretty cheap to fly in and out of. Chicago is a nightmare!

BTW. I'm going to CES in January, and I know at least one other member is as well. If anyone else is going, I'm staying at the Rio. Very nice, inexpensive, and, from what I've been told, a topless beach.:D

Yep, whoever is going to CES, we should definitely have a meet-up.

Im born and raised in Indiana, And lived in the city of Indianapolis for one year. If you want to fly out there to have a technibble meet up and then be bored, go right ahead.

Or you can come to San Diego. It would be good for everyone wife, kids? Dont forget your Australian buddies. Do they want to fly to the inner US?

Even if you had it in San Diego I would probably not go because Im not a technician yet. But hey if your going spend $$$$ its either party town (Vegas) or beach town (San Diego). But Indiana ??????

Believe it or not. There is actually more to do in San Diego then Vegas. Even gamble in full blown Casinos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Vegas is 5hr NE and all these are 45 minutes away!
