Hey,

Has anybody ever thought of what the pros and cons would be of having a shopping cart system setup to accept Remote Service payments?

It would look like a regular store, but instead of purchasing products you'd purchase remote work services. All your different services would be there with a description and price and etc. I have yet to see anybody here with a setup like that.

I like the idea, I have just a paypal button on my site, but I am sure I could create a drop down for selections of different payments.

Say you were to have a list like this:

Virus Removal
Spyware Removal
Virus/Spyware Removal
Driver updates
Windows Updates
Anti Virus install
Wireless Setup

To me that would be a bit confusing for people and it would be much easier if you charge "x" per hour and then when it's time to pay they just can put the amount in there. Otherwise what is you do a virus removal and setup wireless for them. Is that 2 different prices? Or do you do another button for that package? Might be ok..but I prefer simple methods

I don't know if it's just me but I quite often get
I might try it but you would need to be strict on what you do otherwise you could lose out of it.

Well if you are doing remote like the OP said and you are charging an hourly fee then it really does not matter. Heck I'll work all day if they want bottom line is they are paying the hourly rate.

PayPal

I just charge a rate at every 15 minutes or there partof, and send them an PayPal Payment Request.

Very easy, never like fixed rates, because you have no idea until you are on the PC how fast it is running etc.

Thanks

I don't mind when they know it's an hourly rate but when you have a fixed fee like a shopping cart, some people think if they spring it on you you will not charge them any extra.

+1 I went to a PC this morning for a simple job of setting up an iPhone on it, it only had 256MB and geez was it chronically slow! CPU was a P4 2.8 so not that slowing it, client said it's always slow you get used to it!!

Talked them into a memory upgrade there and then and it ran like a dream now it has breathing space, they were amazed at the difference for £20.

Point is if this job was done remotely I'd have gone insane at how long it would have taken, I want to do more remote work but times like this one I think I'd only do them if PC met semi decent spec!!

To DCGPX:

We do a memory check in our remote cleanings and offer folks to purchase on Crucial, we then talk them through installing it themselves later on and then do the cleaning, or we just go through the cleaning all day. Works for most clients with slow systems, we do it it faster usually to some degree.
