I have three different clients (church/ministry) using gmail with Thunderbird. Several people use the same email address but on different pc's. They all want to be able to view each other's send/receive emails, so I set them up like this per an instruction thread I found several years ago;
Church <"recent:church"@gmail.com>
Admittedly, I'm not the sharpest when it comes to the best email set up like this, I'm sure you guys would have a better way of doing it, but it satisfied their needs. This has worked flawlessly and has kept everyone happy, although it does create a lot of redundant emails in everyone's inbox, lol. However, that is what they wanted, so be it.
A few days ago, I started getting calls from all of them; they were receiving "555 5.5.2 Syntax error" when they would attempt to send an email. After doing some digging, I have discovered that Gmail has changed their protocols and now you have to remove the quotes in the address.
Edited it to the following and it is working like a charm again.
Church <recent:church@gmail.com>
Just posting this for reference in case anyone else has client's set up like this, might save you some diagnostic time.
