So Dell has been changing how they do their full disk encryption, and Lenovo doesn't do FDE anymore. I tried and tried talking to someone at Dell regarding their "managed encryption" product...but can't get anywhere. So screw them.

Looking to 3rd party disk encryption.."managed". I want to be able to manage the laptops at different clients.

Really don't want to bother with vanilla bitlocker.

So if anyone has good or bad experiences with 3rd party tools...please post.
I have a call out to the region Sophos rep. I'm sure it's good but knowing Sophos...likely very steep.

I'm not a fan of Symantec...but might have to consider their PGP.

...others......?

I've used McAfee Endpoint Encryption, but not sure it will do what you want. The ePO versions are much better than the old versions. It works via LDAP sync for domain environments, but i'm not sure it can handle multiple clients/domains. Also it can be a PITA to have single sign on to synch with AD passwords when the user password expires. I do not recommend McAfee Endpoint Encryption. I have had too many synch issues as well as decryptions failing losing all user data. We are currently switching from MEE to BitLocker at my FTJ.

Why is Bitlocker off the table?

I want a universal platform to cover many clients, which can include just Win7 Pro and even some straggling XP clients out there. If it utilizes BitLocker on Win 8 rigs...tis fine, as long as it falls under the blanket of this centralized console.

I wonder if that was the case. Microsoft was stupid for not providing BL to every version of Windows.

Back when I was doing some support work for the Defense Contract Audit Agency they were using Safenet. Full AD integration and has smart card support as well. But that was back in '10.

I recall Sophos having a centrally encryption utility...

They do, talked with a regional rep yesterday. Product look good and good price. However they hook you on a 1/2 day of training at 1k cost. I now recall the same tactic by then back when we looked at their spam filter appliance....except much higher "training cost" then.

It was called 'Endpoint encryption' when I last used it.... Had issues integrating with the windows login at times for credentials as I recall, may well be ok now.

Would MeAfee endpoint encryption be an option? It's what we use but have no idea as to costs. It has a Web based management backend.

McAfee and Symantec (McCrapee and SymantSuck :D ) ....maybe if nothing else is found, as an absolute last resort. After years in this industry, I'm not fond of either of their products.

Oh don't get me wrong, I 100% agree regarding Mcafee and symantec. However the big bosses, who don't have that much technical knowledge in the public sector choose the Mcafee product, we have to support and get on with it lol! Having said that it works nicely with W7 users dont have to login to encryption and windows, it writes its own boot loader to the drive and 'decrypts' when the user logs in to windows. They also have some half decent recovery tools. I agree McAfee home is a NO NO, but their business products are a little better, but still not great.

As KPK1 pointed out, and I failed to mention, Sophos does full disk encryption.

Their new product http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/safeguard-encryption.aspx apparently does not slow down the system. Watched the videos, and it appeared to work. They also do a free trial.

Yeah I mentioned it on the bottom of the first page, talked to one of their sales guys. Decent looking product, attractive pricing...however...like their other products, they crush you with forced training which is very $$$, before you're authorized to purchase/resell their products. I will not resell enough encryption licenses to even begin to cover the cost of that training.

Back when we looked at spam filtering products, we looked at theirs...which looked good until we learned you had to pay for and do a training on it. Made the price prohibitive, unable to make money from it.

That sales model works for enterprise end user clients, but not for VARs.
