Haven t been on here in quite a while, I've been testing this antivirus on a few computers so i figured i would tell y'all about it. Did a search on here and didnt find much about it.

Its a very proactive FREE antivirus, without noticing any performance loss. All it has no adds on it which is kinda of odd for me. All the av test sites have it at the top with Kaspersky and so on.

Try it out, hopefully they don't add bloatware and adds but its solid for now. I've been using it since about march.

I've installed it on a few machines after having issues w/ BitDefender being too naggy. I have no complaints except that on one machine, it basically completely nuked the system because it acts sort of root-kitty and wants to be a device driver as part of its scan protocol. System was being bonkers---took off Safe360 and it was fine.

The thing that scares people away is that it's very, very Chinese.

I ran it for a while, as did some others here. We found that it seemed to bog down the profile login for laptops running on wireless...really badly. For desktops with hard wire...seemed fine.

I started using it aftr YeOldeStonecat recommended it. I installed it on some friends and family computers and my test bench. I really haven't had any issues except with it throwing some false positives with Quickbooks besides that it runs fine. Helped replace MSE for me.

I know a lot of guys may be steering away, my pick is still avast. Light, fast seems to detect well.

I stopped using avast years ago because of the nags, and the fact that the nags actually talk. What a pain. Been on bitdefender a few years now but it's gotten a smidge naggy too, even the premium versions. I'm still sitting on ~50 keys for BitDefender Internet Security, if anyone else is interested I'll make you a deal.

On Avast it's nice, they actually have a silent/gaming mode, so you can actually make avast a lot quieter. I think there are also options to save your config to deploy on future installs as well.

I've avoided avast, as it appears it needs a number of additional tweaks in order to get it to behave.

I've left Bitdefender cause it had issues remembering some software and directory exclusions.

I'm now using emsisoft which I quite like, as it uses Bitdefender defs as well as it's own. Also, it has had an interface update which makes it very "clean" and easy to navigate.

Ever since "years ago", you've been able to turn off the sounds in the settings. Until recently, the only nags in Avast have been the annual registration which is a pretty small (and fair) price to pair for free AV. And most of those, again, can be turned off in the settings.

You can backup/restore the settings for other installs; just do it before it's registered.

I'm aware you can kill the sounds, it's just another thing that takes me time and that I have to remember to do, and there are other free alternatives so I use those instead. If I could kill it with an installer switch, that'd be one thing. I've also, I swear, had them turn back on after an update.

TBH I haven't installed Avast since I started my business, just because I'm not a fan of encouraging a product "in the top 10" for detection and false positives, I'd rather be selling/encouraging "the best."
