    OMG! Password resets!

I think you have misunderstood my point. If I have an Android phone and I get a new Android phone all I have to do is login to my Microsoft Account and I can recover my tokens. If I cross the river and switch to an iPhone I can’t access them. For whatever reason Microsoft is using on iPhones...

    OMG! Password resets!

That’s the problem. No one is implementing passkeys correctly. Passkeys are supposed to replace usernames and passwords. Amazon just uses it as a replacement MFA. You still need to input username and password before you use the passkey. Microsoft only lets you use passkeys with their...

Just got a quote from Dell for warranty renewal...wow.

It's more than that. Servers are often quoted 4 hr response times and so you are paying for Dell to have parts stored at UPS or FedEx wearhouses ready for rapid delivery. The price quote is probably for that level of service.

[WARNING] Secure Boot Process compromised on 200+ motherboard models

And the irony of having a whole article about sloppy procedures. And they didn't even edit their own code correctly. They could have used a code box like I just did.

[WARNING] Secure Boot Process compromised on 200+ motherboard models

You have to edit the stupid example. There is a hard return you have to remove and the true at the end is the output and not the code. [System.Text.Encoding]::ASCII.GetString((Get-SecureBootUEFI PK).bytes) -match "DO NOT TRUST|DO NOT SHIP"

If you were presented with a machine that was randomly shutting down and/or rebooting . . .

Start with Event Logs. See if the PC is being shut down gracefully or if it is perhaps BSODs. Even if the system is just cutting off, they maybe some warning events that trigger before it goes down. Lacking any of that, begin with testing the power supply. The PSU is the most likely...

And people wonder why I hate Crowdstrike...

I’m aware of that. You missed my point. To get those systems booted all they had to do was load the previous kernel. (This as assuming that you retain copies of your previous kernel when you patch it. Not everyone does). It’s an easier fix than booting into safe mode than Windows.

And people wonder why I hate Crowdstrike...

Not surprisingly as this was an enterprise issue. Home PCs or small business don’t use this product.

And people wonder why I hate Crowdstrike...

The could build the windows boot process to work more like Linux. The driver is a kernel level driver. Linux compiles that into a single file and most distros keep the older kernels. So if something borks that current one you can select a previous one from a menu. As you mentioned Microsoft...

What kind of glue for gluing a rubber trackpoint ?

Of course you can. If I rent an apartment I have to put up a deposit. Rent a car? You better return it with a full tank of gas or get charged. Your “good” client is costing you extra time and expenses because they can’t take care of your equipment. Recognize when you are being taken...
