The beta version of Apple’s next web browser upgrade is now available for download.
In this version, Javascript loads 30 times faster than Firefox 3 according to the article at Macworld’s website.
It scored a perfect score on the Acid3 test according to the author of the Macworld article. The test checks how a web browser follow web standards.
There is a new topsites page feature which loads by default. It is similar to the speed dial feature in Opera web browser and the speed dial extension for firefox.

Downloaded this a few hours ago and so far its great. Fastest browser I have used. Looks like Apple beat Google to the punch. I guess they figured google chrome had been out for Windows for months now and they don’t seem to be in a rush to make a Mac version. Besides, who better to make Mac software than Apple?
Perfect Acid3 test? Color me impressed.
i downloaded this the other day to replace IE. its pretty cool, but i prefer Google Chrome…i guess its because i havent played with it (Safari 4) too much.
Mac software runs great on Mac’s, not so much on Windows. It usually tries to install Apple Software update and Bonjour which is notoriously insecure.
Used it for a day..deleted it. A bit faster than firefox and about the same speed as IE on my system. Chrome is a tie.
30 times faster?? Mac fanboy crap
Not ready for prime time.
Yeah, I agree with you John. “30 times faster?? Mac fanboy crap”. If he said 3 times faster than firefox then it might be logic. I guess, it must be mistyping..huhu. Btw, I’m not using it yet, but I think Opera still the best.
I downloaded it 2 days ago. All was good except that we could open mail in Hotmail. We could sign in but we couldn’t open anything. Also, gmail would “log out” on its own at times. I called Apple Support and they just advised me to go back to Safari 3 and wait a while to upgrade. He said the problem was with Hotmail.
The above should read “we could NOT open Hotmail.” Sorry.
