Apple has released the latest version of their multimedia player, Quicktime. It fixes a total of seven flaws. Six of those flaws are related to hacking by tricking a user to view a malicious Quicktime file. The other flaw is about Java. The flaw lets an attacker run Java applets on a higher priviledge and the attacker can also gain sensitive information by exploiting the flaw.
“QuickTime seems to have become a new flavor of the month for researchers. I think part of the reason for the attention is that its cross platform. Many of the attacks will work on both Windows and Mac, and with Apple’s market share in the PC market growing, there won’t be any let-down to the attention that the hackers are giving Apple,” said Andrew Storms of nCircle Network Security.
