The development of Microsoft Works software suite has been abandoned by the company. Instead, users can get Office Starter 2010. This is a stripped down version of Office and it contain ads.
“Office Starter 2010 will provide new PC owners with immediate exposure to the Office 2010 experience on new PCs right out of the box,” said Microsoft officials.
This version also includes the Ribbon interface.
The officials added that it “enables a faster path for consumers to begin using any of three full versions of Microsoft Office.”

Bless you Microsoft, you finally seen the lite and a direct path to MS Office. I bought an HP with a time limited trial version of MS Office and full version of Works. Works is dead end entrapment software of the worst kind. Dudes you can’t be dominate and arrogant too, look what happened to General Motors. Office Starter is a good move, along with Win7, you might redeem yourself. Don’t mess it up!!!
Well, it is a good start for MS, but for many of us who have “tasted” Open Office, this still is not the best news. MS Office has typically been “bloated” and unwieldy, not to mention unfriendly. The newest versions of MS Office have been hard to explain to customers who have felt forced to buy it since it was a trial version on their new PCs. Then they have complained about the constant changes of where items are in each new version. Updates may be fine but one or two at a time please!
