A new bug has been published by Microsoft which affects multiple versions of Windows operating systems. According to the article at Ars Technica, here the Windows versions that are affected:
1. Windows XP with SP2
2. Windows Server 2003
3. Windows Vista with or without SP1
4. Windows Server 2008
It is a security issue which allows privilege escalation. It can be exploited only if IIS is enabled or an SQL Server is installed.
The advisory from Microsoft notes that, “Microsoft will take the appropriate action to protect our customers, which may include providing a solution through a service pack, our monthly security update release process, or an out-of-cycle security update, depending on customer needs.”
