More than 300,000 customers of Qualys Inc. were scanned and the results show that patching of the MS08-067 vulnerability increased dramatically in the past two weeks.

“The media attention about the April 1 date got people scanning like crazy. We saw three to four times more scans [for the worm] than usual on March 30,” said Wolfgang Kandek of Qualys. He is the chief technology officer.

Several days after April 1, the percentage of vulnerable PCs of the company’s customers dropped from 40% to 20%.

“Before [April 1], the number of machines still vulnerable to MS08-067 was probably comparable to other Microsoft vulnerabilities. Now it’s better than average,” he added.
