Microsft is getting ready to release Morro which is its free antivirus software for its Windows operating systems. A trial version or public beta will be available soon but no specific date has been released.
Morro may hurt the sales of its comptetitors, McAfee and Symantec antivirus softwares. “It’s a long-term competitive threat,” said Daniel Ives who is an analyst with FBR Capital Markets.
It is designed to prevent viruses, spyware, rootkits, trojans, and other malicious software to run or enter a user’s computer.
“Microsoft’s free product is basically a stripped down version of the OneCare product Microsoft pulled from the shelves,” said Janice Chaffin of Symantec.

this takes me back to msav.exe
Another Microsoft Failure! As if Windows Defender and The Microsoft Malicious Software removal tool and Live One Care wasn’t enough now they have to show us more FAIL! LMAO!
Well, well, PJ; what do you sit on now?
Seriously, let’s see how well (or not) it actually performs in real life tests and in the field.
Norton, McAfee, Trend, ZoneLabs et al need some competition, seriously. If it is only good to get some of the others off their comfy hinders then it already would have had a purpose.
microsoft isnt going to be the one to give them competition.
PJ was right, windows defender does squat except want to scan my computer all the time. its never found 1 single issue. MSRT only half-ass works.
I’ll wait and see about that Morro thing. I’m pretty happy with my free AVG so not in a rush to replace it. Besides, who needs another 15 extra processes running at all times?
As for Windows Defender… yeah, to think of it, it never found a single thing on my numerous Vista computers either (AVG did and cleaned the bad stuff with no problems).
this is a good that Microsoft is adding antivirus software to Windows.
