Recently Microsoft released a list of all the lawsuits they currently have against computer businesses selling pirate Microsoft software.
On the Microsoft Genuine Software Initiative Home Page, a site set up to be a scare tactic they mention that in the US in the years 2005 to 2006 they had 52 police raids, 97 lawsuits, 32859 computers seized to the value of $23,668,747. 73,519 Auction takedowns and 5,226 website takedowns.

The various businesses have been caught out by Microsoft responding to leads to their piracy hotline 1-800-RU-LEGIT and then Microsoft gathers evidence by sending a “secret shopper” for a test purchase to test the authenticity of the software.
