Apple has encourage their Mac OS X users to install an antivirus software to protect them from viruses. “Apple encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities so that virus programmers have more than one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more difficult,” said the company in a Tech Note.
It is a strange advice notes Steve Ragan who is the author of the article at thetechherald.com.
Apple mentioned three antivirus softwares which are Norton Anti-Virus 11 for Mac, McAfee Virus Scan for Mac, and Intego VirusBarrier X5

Good advice. With Macs gaining in popularity, it’s only a matter of time before virus programmers start setting their sights on macs and there are alot of people out there who have a false sense of security because macs have been overlooked by virus writers in the past.
Definitely with growing popularity of Mac virus utilities should be a must in future. Maybe Apple team is planning to enter that area also ??
Sorry, even on my Mac, I wouldn’t trust Norton or McAfee. I hope more companies jump into the Mac AV market.
Cnet had an article on this yesterday, by today, cnet said apple has removed the reccommendation from thier site?
Although its true that the more popular Macs become the more the need for AV software goes up, a Mac running firefox is still far more secure than any PC.
