Microsoft released patch yesterday for Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) bugs in Windows 7. It addresses a wide range of “reliability” problems.
“We use the term ‘reliability’ to broadly encompass all types of stability problems including crashes, hangs, memory leaks, etc. Most of the issues that we discovered through the [IE8] Beta are fixed in the Release Candidate 1, which is now available for Windows Vista and Windows XP,” said Herman Ng who is a program manager on the IE8 team.
The article at Computerworld notes that the total number of bugs that the patch fixed is not given.

I don’t necessarily want to encourage them to release an unfinished product, but they really need to push IE8 out the door. I’ve been using Firefox since I first heard about it a few years ago, but IE8 is substantially faster than IE7 (which you still have to use to do Windows Updates on older machines).
I just hope they dramatically improve the speed of the installer this time around. Waiting 10 minutes for a single program to install (especially one that’s not spanning multiple DVDs like Photoshop) is nuts.
Thanks Lee for posting this news clipping. My name is Jeff and I work with the Windows Outreach Team. Here is the aforementioned patch for interested parties- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962921 .
@Jeremy- There are a lot of people who would agree with you. Microsoft is trying to strike a balance between a quick release yet finished functionality with IE8 and hopefully this balance is found soon.
Cheers,
Jeff
