How to Uninstall Internet Explorer 7 (IE7)

Many people who know their stuff with their computers are rushing to give the new Internet Explorer 7: Beta 2 a try even though it is known to have bugs still. One of these bugs that are frequently showing up is that when IE7 causes problems elsewhere (such as in browsing) and they want to uninstall it, they often cant. Here is a guide of how to uninstall IE 7.

First of all, the bug is that Internet Explorer 7 doesnt have an uninstall show up in the Add/Remove Programs list even when “Show Updates” is enabled.

If “Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview” does not exist in the Add/Remove Programs list, Log on as the same user account that you installed IE7 with.

Goto Start > Run and enter:

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

You can also go there manually via Explorer however you will need to have “View Hidden Folders” enabled in order to see it.

Some people may have a problem with the uninstall saying:
“Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview cannot be uninstalled from this user account. Please log on to the same user account from which it was installed and try again”
Even though they are logged on as the user that installed it.

To bypass this goto:
Start > Run and type “regedit” (without the quotes) and navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\Microsoft\internet explorer

Once here, create a new key in the registry by going to the top menu and clicking Edit > New > Key and name it “InstalledByUser” (it will look like a folder).

In this folder there will be a entry called “Default”, Double click on it and enter your current username there. After that the uninstaller should work perfectly.

In my computer instead of creating a new Key, I had to create a new DWORD value in “Internet Explorer” key.
The name of the value is “InstalledByUser” and you leave it to 0.

I have tried everything.. my computer does not have a spuninst file and IE does not show up in my uninstall folder. I downloaded a uninstall program that said it could uninstall it but IE did not show up in their list either.
