One year for hardware is sensible. I owuld certainly agree with not giving software support, this can be a complete nightmare, especially when you have a user who can barely use a PC (and there are plenty of them!)

Asus does have some good boards, but its hard to beat Gigabyte's price to performance ratio, 80 bucks gets you a board that outperforms a much more expensive intel.

RonW,
I use both, but I haven't been using the ValueRAM stuff for long enough to know for sure, only the good Kingston. Although, I haven't had any returns with ValueRAM yet.

Edit: The other 30% is composed of 6 years or older seagates, or any other brand, mainly seems to be hitachi and quantums that go bad besides WD.

Seagate had the 5 year warranty before Western Digital, and that has always meant something to me. But to each his own experiences.

Great Article. Just a couple questions.
1) Are we talking Kingston KVR here, or the good Kingston?

2) Seagate is the way to go IMHO. Take today a brand new 250 gig Western Digital out of the box had read and read verify failures. 70% of the drives I replace are Western Digital. We generally carry seagate due to this reason, but our warehouse guy sent WD >:(

3) First post, love the site, been lurking for a while =)

Better products have less problems and users break things. That is why clients need to sign off that everything works.

Chuck, If I sent out to fix the job and the virus came back a few hours later, I'd go back and fix it, beyond that I wouldnt offer a warranty on software related things.

begellad, 20% markup in shop and 25% onsite. I dont think having to do warranty returns are ever "worthwhile". Just try and minimise the chances of them happening in the first place.
