Client has a Brother HL-L6200DW whose only purpose is to print checks. This printer is USB cabled directly into the system. The printer intermittently (since about a week ago) will light up and show "Receiving Data" on the LCD display. It will be stuck at Receiving Data until she prints. When she sees the printer automatically start "Receiving Data" she will remove the checks, load regular paper, print ANYTHING, then she will get the error below, and then the printer will resume working normally so she will re-load her checks and return to normal work.

The other way to resolve this is to reboot the printer, but this issue is occurring several times a day since about a week ago.

The internet is saying that it happens with all sorts of printers and the main reason is that the printer is cabled and it needs to be on the network instead, which sounds dumb.

We'd prefer this printer be off network so that no one has access to it since it's pretty much loaded with checks and not regular paper, all the time.

I already rebooted the printer and removed it and reinstalled it using the official Brother drivers.

Are any other printers installed on this machine (or this one installed twice)? It could be that multiple printers are using the same virtual USB port. Here is a link to the brother website about this issue https://help.brother-usa.com/app/an...evmgmt/productconfigcap.xml-http/1.1-printing

How were the printer drivers installed? Let windows install them or downloaded from Brother? If it was windows that installed them, remove and install ones from Brother. Quite often when windows installs a printer driver it wont install the scanner driver (Its better now than a couple years ago but still not great). Updating the firmware is also a good thing to do in this case

Just a hunch, but I'd be sure both the PC and the printer never enter sleep mode.
