stop win 8.1 upgrading to win 10

I have a client with a LOB app running Windows 8.1, in the windows update screen it says to reboot to install windows 10 but I found 3 failed updates to windows 10 in May.

GWX does not find the win 10 download folder and never10 says the settings are not to upgrade OS

Any ideas or is this just a false display?

I would delete everything in the Software Distribution folder and run Win Updates again.

FYI - I keep a batch file around to do @Barcelona -

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

Run as admin.

Is there a hidden folder in the root of C:\ that ends with ~BT? If there is, that could be the staging files, it would be about 4~ish GB. You would want to remove those files as well.

The windows 10 forced upgrade has ended. Get the machine properly up to date on Windows Updates and GWX will be disabled and removed.
