Symantec Completes Phoenix Labs Acquisition

(this was our April Fools joke)
CUPERTINO, CA – Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced it has completed the acquisition of Phoenix Labs, the market leader in small-footprint firewalls and peer-to-peer protection. Phoenix Lab’s expertise in internet investigation, rapid response and efficient driver technologies complements Symantec’s leadership in client security to offer organizations a comprehensive endpoint protection solution for both managed and unmanaged networks.
Phoenix Lab’s portfolio consists of a number of products, particularly the PeerGuardian 2 software for Microsoft Windows. This system is an example of exemplary driver-level efficiency and, as such, was a valuable purchase that we believe our shareholders will value. This combined with the blocklist.org IP database provide exceptional protection for computers, information, and networks from misuse, unauthorized malicious access, and incorrect configuration.
Symantec will continue to provide PeerGuardian 2, as well as other software developed by Phoenix Labs under their current licenses for a period of 28 days, before they are withdrawn from the market permanently. There will be no more updates to blocklist.org.
Symantec believe that it is unwise to maintain user forums, but as a bonus to loyal Phoenix Labs users all user data will be transferred to our marketing department (as well as specially selected partners) in order to offer you a number of special deals and free prize draws.
Some of PeerGuardian’s features and technologies will be available in Norton Internet Security 2007, which will be available in the last quarter of this year.
For further details of the acquisition, please see this article.
