For the last month I've been frustrated with an issue whereby my Linux Mint laptop would disconnect from the wired network every few minutes.
Stopping/starting the network connection would restart it again - but only temporarily.
Wifi was rock solid but I need it cabled. Changed cables, checked UTM settings, changed modem/router (3 different ones), replaced switch, Googled and got no sense, just got used to flicking the switch every 6 minutes or so!
I had no idea why it started doing this but nearest I could remember was doing a kernel update to 4.13.0.37 around the time it started. Updateing to 4.13.0.38 did not improve it.

Updated to 4.13.0.39 today and have not had a dropout since! YAY!!

Even with Linux I tend to let the dust settle a bit. I may still be at 18.2 on a machine or two around here.

Yeah,I've got clients and friends still using Mint 16.xx and 17.xx 'cause it just works and they don't feel the need to upgrade.
Personally, I like to be on the "cutting edge" so tend to implement kernel updates shortly after release.
Meaning, I download and install but don't restart for a week or two.
Bites me on the arse sometimes.
