Aloha everyone. I've decided to upgrade my NAS from a Western Digital MyCloud Mirror to a Synology DS220+. From googleing how to migrate my data, it appears that using rsync is a good way to do this. However, all of the "guides" I have found that supposedly explain how to do this are unintelligible to me. There is approximately 3 TB of data to move. So, a couple of questions:

1) Is rsync really the best way to migrate my data? (note: I will be removing the WD MyCloud Mirror from my network once the data transfer is complete). If not, then any suggestions on an alternate way to do this would be appreciated.

2) If rsync is the best way, then can you point me to an "idiots guide to using rsync"?

I'm a big fan of FreeFileSync for doing data migrations from old to new servers.
+1 for FreeFileSync. I've had it running here for nearly five years and it's never missed a beat. Also...clue in the name - it's free :)

Have a look at the search results from: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=migrate+wd+my+cloud+to+synology

One of the first results on community.synology.com, https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/17/post/107907, includes references to a large number of other relevant posts on the left side of the page.

Aloha @britechguy. Mahalo for finding that one on community.synology.com. It had the answer (File Station - Tools - Mount Remote Folder). Always kind of startling to see such different search results for essentially the same search. All my hits talked about were rsync commands.

Also, mahalo @YeOldeStonecat and @Mick for the suggestion of FreeFileSync. I'll keep it in mind if I need something like this again in the future. I'm using SyncBackFree to keep some USBs synced with my hard drive. Had not heard of FreeFileSync.

Mahalo!
