I don't doubt this will be a net benefit to humankind in the near future. Good science is generally a positive for humanity.
However, I remain skeptical about the timing of this award at a time when nearly 50% of the US population have reservations about the Covid vaccine.
Just another case where the authorities have over promised and under delivered. Now that's not necessarily the scientists fault, but the faux scientists like Fauci.
Fortunately the Nobel prize is awarded based on the judgement of scientists from around the world and not the US general public, nearly 70% of whom apparently believe in angels:
Americans' belief in angels (69 percent) is about on par with belief in heaven and the power of prayer, but bested by belief in God or a higher power (79 percent), according to a new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

I'm a big fan of science and very happy to see it done by scientists, not popular opinion. It's nice that the Nobel committee feels the same way.
