[SOLVED] Copy time machine backup to exfat ext drive

Hi, I got in a seagate ext with time machine backups on it. My client wants the data copied off, the drive formatted so he can use it in both pc and mac (exfat I'm thinking) then have me put the data back on. I tried to copy the backupdb over to the exfat drive but it says "this volume is the wrong format for backup". Can anybody give me a clue what I need to do here. thanks!

I think time machine was stuck on or something, got it resolved by going deeper into the backupdb file any copying separate folders.
