Default Latop A/C adpater plugged in followed by LOUD POP

Greetings,

I have a laptop and the client happens to be a bit too far too drive.

I don't want to drive only to find out something that I wished I would have known prior to leaving i.e bad mobo etc.

The client has a dell Lat D600 and plugged in the A/C adapter. Right after he heard a "loud Pop" sound. If the ac adapter is plugged in by it self the green light turns on (yes I know the current/voltage needs to be measure). But once plugged into the laptop the light on the ac adapter turns off. Of course the laptop does not turn on what so ever whether its on batteries only on ac power.

What do you think. Bad modo?

Thank you again.

There's a short in the motherboard causing the light in the ac adapter to go out. Most likely the motherboard is dead.

Thanks Nick that is what I figured.

I just realised that I should just go and charge him for troubleshooting instead of just emailing him stating that its the mobo.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 here with the same issue - no power with bat. or plugged in and as soon as you plug in the power adapter into the computer, the light on the adapter goes out. According to the client, the laptop was left on under a bed spread and got really hot, then shut off. I heard of a few people having the same issue with this particular computer and a new mobo solved the issue so I am also thinking that a new motherboard is in order here.
