I used to use in daily in my corporate days - I had one site with around 20 Sun boxes running Solaris. Running on Sun hardware, it's a fantastic server.

I haven't seen it once the last 5 years though.

I think Sun wanted it to become the next Linux, which has obviously failed....

That's right - it used to be only available at considerable cost from Sun. A few years ago they made it free -- I think the reason for this was to try and compete better with the Linux server market.

I downloaded it for free...after I had to register a couple of years ago....
wow did they contact me all the time, I felt like I was a alpha tester or something.

I have found it to be the same, In the last 3-4 years I have not seen any.
