XBOX Repair Kits

Has anyone tried the RROD repair kits available on places like ebay? I want to know whether they actually work, because I don't want to void the warranty for nothing.

There are many different kinds. Some just offer different kinds of clamps, others offer special venting or modifiying fan speeds, others are for rework or even reballing of the BGA chips.

Or you could wrap in in towels cook it for 15-45 minutes then let it cool and reboot. I think that was the method which does work but MTBF get smaller and smaller.

I have not tried them, but I think opening the Xbox for anything automatically voids the warranty. So if the warranty is your main concern I would not even bother...

Now repairing box's that are out of warranty, this may be useful.

I've repaired successfully about a dozen of them exhibiting the "red ring of death" using a repair kit from Ebay plus some Artic Silver thermal paste.

Also tried the towel trick which did work but only for a day or two.

An easy repair for which I charge £40 and you can get all the help easily on YouTube

I was hoping to find somebody who'd tried the kits, it just seems a bit strange to me how you can spend less than £5 to fix a major problem that effects an entire product range. I have one more question though, are these a permanent fix or temporary?

All of the 360's I have repaired with the Ebay kits are still working. I think getting the correct tightness of the bolts is quite important, not too tight and make sure you use the spring washers

Thanks again david248005, I'm going to buy a faulty RROD-ing xbox off ebay for £30 to try and test it out. If it works, yay!, if not I'll just repack it and sell it again as faulty
