New desktop for a customer

I have a customer how wants to buy a new desktop computer and i have already give him some options. he wants to spent between £500-£600, he is a pro at poker and is a mod on some poker forums, so he says he has about 15-20 tabs open in firefox at a time, and needs a fast computer, my questions are what is the best make of computer to go for, like best for warranty and build.
what would people recommend, i have recommended a quad core acer with a 19 inch screen.

A quad-core is way overkill on this one. I really like the Acer Veritron series. Nice machines. Just make sure you get enough ram in it. That's what he really needs. 4 GB will be enough to open as many tabs as he wants. A config with a Core 2 Duo or Athlon X2 will do fine. Most of the Veritrons come with Vista Business and downgrade to XP, so you can even offer him the choice of OS.

As cheap as LCD's are these days, offer him a 22" or 24".

As it happens, I'm sitting here preparing a quote for a replacement tower, data transfer etc. that includes this.

Computergeek1, remember that he'll probably expect an all-in price for supply, installation and data transfer so factor those in. EDIT: made an arse of that, will be back..........
OK, I'd have a hard time doing that job for less than £675 in your money so soften him up in advance.

Why dont you suggest a custom build to EXACTLY what he needs it for? I love building and torture testing PCs. Good learning experience.

Cheers angry_geek, was torn between a duo core or a quad core, and was thinking on the same lines as you about the memory, will prob price up a base unit and a bigger LCD. I like the acer desktops because they are trustworthy not like HP's.

So what about LCD's what makes do you tend to stick with, I like HP, LG and a another one with a weird name.

You should try selling him on a custom system with dual monitors (maybe even 3?). If he's any good at poker he'll have no problem paying a decent price for a setup like that. Back when I played semi-pro it wasn't unusual to have 2-4 tables open at once and looking back I'm an idiot for not using more than one screen. It would have made table juggling so much easier and overall less stressful.

For you to really make some decent money on a deal like that it would be relatively expensive for him, but if he's making money then it's just the cost of doing business. Try to breakdown his cost per day based on a 3-5 year life cycle of a computer. It's probably pocket change for him to have that extra screen.
