Exporting mail from a Mac's Mail App to Outlook 2007

I'll start with this: I am not a Mac guy. I don't have anything against them, I just don't use them or have anything to do with them in my day to day work.

A client of mine got himself a MacBook a while ago and he really just uses it for email/internet etc. He's decided that he needs a netbook for when he travels so I spent an afternoon setting it up with all his apps etc. I ran into a HUGE problem when I needed to move his email over to the netbook. The mac's mail app does not have an export function at all.

After much googling I ended up with a very crappy work around (select all mail > save as > move the mail archive to a Windows PC, import it into Eudora, then I ran it through Emailchemy which then allowed me to import it into Outlook in a bit of a mess - all emails were attachments of an email in the archive, but my client was happy enough with it as he won't be using it too often. On the other hand I'm not happy as it was messy as hell and want to get this right.

Anyone run into this sort of thing? Is there a slightly less complicated way of exporting the mail to a PST or something Outlook can read?

the reason noone seems to have answerd is, because usuallypeople go from pc to mac the other way is not so usual, but i must say i'm surprised ther isn't a built in function to export to pst. Macs just work!!

Never tried it, but I'd say Thunderbird might help as it uses the same storage structure on Mac as on Windows. Going from Thunderbird-Windows to Outlook2007-Windows might be more tricky though. Especially as not many people have done this before and posted info about it, because most people like Thunderbird better.

That's pretty much why I've never encountered anything like that. I tried searching Apple support and they will tell you several ways to go from PC to Mac but not the other way around. Doesn't Microsoft's KB have any suggestions?

Apple Mail .. Copy the Mail and Mail Downloads folders located inside your User: Library Folder. Inside the Mail folder there will be MBOX files which you can import into Outlook or Thunderbird

Depends on the version of Mail.app. version 2.0 and up no longer use the mbox format. I have this for importing to Thunderbird if it helps any: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_from_Mail.app
