I've been reading all the posts that I could find on the soldering/desoldering.
I want to start doing dc jacks myself. I used to built circuits many moons ago from the Everyday Electronics magazine. the problem is replacing dc jacks is a lot different that just building new circuits on vero board. I've read with interest all the different recommendations for solder stations, etc. i really like the Hakko 808 and the Aoyue 968A+ but the problem is I can't find a UK supplier. Does anyone know where in the UK I can get them or what ones do you UK techs recommend and use. And how come all you americans say sodder, or soddering when the word is solder. : )

We Americans usually don't like to waste precious letters, not wanting it to color our thinking or put us in bad humor. By the way, I have never been happy with the results of soldering aluminum wiring.

I think I see what he did there... I just ran the response through Google Translate's US English to EU English translator:
We Americans usually don't like to waste precious letters, not wanting it to colour our thinking or put us in bad humour. From this, we can safely say that soldering is not his speciality. |

Glamour, Honour, Space Shuttle Endeavour and The special car on Amtrak's Coast Starlight train is known as the Pacific Parlour car, not Pacific Parlor. So you can waste some letters when it suits you.
