I use my Droid X loaded with Quickbooks, Intuit GoPayment, and Mailchimp. When I wrap up an on-site repair, I use Quickbooks to generate the invoice/receipt and email it to them. If they want to use their credit card I can hook in to GoPayment for that. And I get them signed up for my newsletter through the Mailchimp app.
As far as "impressing" people with a tablet, it might improve your "image" and increase the positive perception in the customer's eyes, but hopefully your customers are more concerned with your performance in repairing their computer than what gadgets you can afford. I bring my laptop with me for being able to plug in customer hard drives for diagnostic/repair/cloning options, so if I need to show a customer anything special like dropbox/Webroot/etc I open up my laptop.

Use a projector that's attached to your tablet, nothing blows their mind quicker, and it's really really simple.

A friend of mine is using the Pocket Projector MP180. He is satisfied with it when having presentations and finds it very handy for traveling.

To echo what others have said, we use it for work orders, payments, Dropbox, etc. The clients love it when they can sign the work order on the tablet. It makes life very easy while onsite, and it is much easier for me to carry around than a laptop. I've got a Bluetooth keyboard I take with me in case I need to do some heavy typing for any reason. I can even do remote support right from the iPad.
I've got the wifi model, so, if I can't use the wireless network onsite, then I setup my iPhone as a hotspot. I may get a portable hotspot from Verizon, but right now I don't want to spend the extra cash. Presentations also work well. For our business clients, we bring along our Apple TV and hook it up. Then we have wireless screen sharing from the iPad. We always get tons of questions about that. |
