It's a bit long, but stick with it. I would actually love to take that laptop apart and see what kind of damage he did.

Sounds like a jerk to live with.
I grew up with lots of chores, to many imo. If your expected to come home and all you really have time for is chores and school work, theres too many chores. Doesnt leave much time for playing outside and learning to interact without other people outside of school. He is on the video saying she is cussing to much, but what is he doing in his video that he posted for other kids to see? double standard perhaps? Even if she doesnt have a lot to do, he sounds like a jerk. He could have totally done that in a more appropriate way. IMO. |

Parent teaching a kid to solve problems with a gun...GOOD THINKING!

Not the best method especially as so much home work research is done online now.

To quote Chris Rock: "Can't say I approve, but I understand."
having 2 teenage girls I can see where he's coming from. Their crap gets ridiculous at times. Had one flip out on me Wednesday because I asked if her chores were done as I came in the door from meeting with a client. Her one and only daily chore? Take out the trash. You would have thought I put nine through her laptop the way she whined about life being unfair. The activity I interrupted her from? making a playlist on her media player. Said media player and laptop are confiscated for a while. I wont be destroying them though.

I am fine with him leaving a video response on Youtube or his daughters Facebook page, however I think his overall response by using the handgun to destroy the laptop was not proper. What type of message is that sending to his daughter or to others? That it is OK to use a gun when frustrated or angry? I think he should have just taken away the laptop and grounded her instead of destroying the laptop like that.

Yeah this vid is all over my Facebook page, people seem to think it's just great. I agree, the dude sounds like a jerk. Notice how many times he references himself.
I think the thing people are missing is that most likely the real issue here *isn't* the chores. At all. There's a power struggle and a major communication breakdown. The kid in question may indeed be a little bratty--but if the guy's solution to problems is shooting things, there's a problem.

His response (reaction) probably isnt going to improve things between them. Its like he's saying "Im so awesome, see how I can fix you" (publicly) None of that is about resolving the issue between them. Its all about him. But y'know... thats cool. Her ultimate comeback would be to post a video on his Facebook page of herself getting drunk, smoking a few joints, and then gangbanging the football team. "I found a bunch of new things to do with my free time, thanks to you, Dad. Just wanted everyone you know to see the results of your epic parenting skills" .
