It all boils down to paying attention when reassembling a unit. Turns out a little wire from the MagSafe board got caught by a screw and caused it to groundout against the casing. I repaired the break temporarily until a replacement arrives and it works fine. Thanks for the sounding board. Working alone makes it harder to bounce ideas off of empty walls.
