Default Computer Fix-It, Wichita, KS USA

Hello all,

I own Computer Fix It in Wichita, KS for about 17 years I have been supporting home users and small office small home enterprises.

I began in IT as a MBA managing a small IT company (3-5 techs). I decided to pickup the MCSE, Qbooks Adviser and A+ and pull more of the load technically as well.

I went on my own after 3 years when my brother didn't want to become partners. I was into the whole Windows MCSE server/LAN network engineer thing until 2000 calling myself Scarpelli Consulting. I primarily worked on Windows NT/2000 Terminal server with Quickbooks for small customers. I have taken jobs across the USA and even in Australia as a Consultant.

I have an MBA from Boston College so I am probably a little stronger with business management, cash control, marketing and accounting than I am with IT side of business. Still I have learned much in 17 years and learn more each week. I started at home with a single tech bench, in the garage. I refocused to retail home owners in 2000 and doubled volume every 6 months for 3 years using sound marketing techniques. We had 3 stores and 12 employees by 2003 doing about $1 million a year before the 2007/2008 crisis. $53k per month in a single store was the best month we ever achieved before the "financial deregulation crowd" screwed up the banking system and equity markets.

For fun-I am a private pilot and own two airplanes which I love to fly cross country. I also have two homes and fly between Miami, FL, Wichita, KS and Palm Springs, CA every other month or so depending on my schedule. Before the financial crisis I took 10 days off every 20 days and worked about 2 hrs a day the rest of the time. I took early retirement sort of at 47 or 7 years ago.

I flew my son to Grand Cayman Islands for his college graduation gift. We took his best friend and we had a blast. Its fun landing on islands or Keys. It was a cool trip. I also flew my brother over the Grand Canyons last year. We had a ball. Other notable trips include Crater Arizona, Catalina island, Key West and many other interesting places. I'd like to fly to Martha's vineyards and Nantucket some day soon.

A small private plane leaves when you get to the airport like a car compared to a bus. It also flies much lower so you can actually see what you are flying over. I stay active in Airplane, Owners and Pilots Association, and International Comanche Society (I own a Piper Cherokee and a Piper Comanche).

Another Hobie-I am getting excited about sustained living and building with 'compressed earth blocks' CEB's. That is where you use compression with the dirt on your building site/land to build your own bricks, to build a new masonry home. I also hope to build it off grid before December 20th of 2012 (just in case the doom sayers are right).

I drive 40-50 mpg Toyota/Honda automobiles as my way of helping out the green earth. While they some times piss me off, I support Unions and any other organization which helps balance the inordinate amount of power that the filthy-rich have over my children and grand children's lives.

We started recycling computers almost a decade ago, from the beginning and it turned out to be profitable as we use old free parts to fix our abandoned computers and sell them to clients as used/refurbish. We also sell used parts for about half the price of new. You would be surprised what other people throw away.

Hi Tony and welcome to TN.

I'm sure you will find this site, a mine of information, and knowledgeable people.

Please bear in mind the following tips:

Search the forums (even using Google) before posting new threads. There is lots of gold in the old threads.

When asking questions, provide as much diagnostic info as possible - hardware stats, etc and, especially, what you've already done and its results. Nobody likes "This broke. Help!" threads.

We've all got our opinions and anecdotal 'evidence' on things but being able to cite other sources is also a boon to helping each other learn.

Remember we're an international community.

But above all else, enjoy yourself.

See you around on the forums.

Ps, great intro. You seem like a very intelligent person. Good to have you onboard with us. I see you are already helping out others. I hope one day, that we as a community can help you also.

It is impossible to know and do everything 100% right. I have already found some good info. I needed the code to help with my automated backups and restores which I got a good lead on. The tech tool of the week was a gold mind. The web site optimization and adsense guys will take me light years ahead as I am that far behind in my own miserable website. So yes these guys are already helping me and I look forward to many years of posting.

It is better not to reinvent the wheel and this site is great.

Thank you
