Mac Fake Antivirus Testing Download Link

I've gotten a hold of a copy of the latest mac infection - MacProtector/MacDefender, and am posting a link here for testing purposes. Clicking the link below will take you to multiupload, and you can choose a download site (rapidshare, megaupload, etc) to download the password-less .zip file.

Love it. To get "infected" you have to download the file manually, then open it up, you then have to manually install it complete with root password. Even then it does not actually do anything bad to your Mac, it just tries to get you to buy it...lol


To remove: Go to activity monitor, right click (yes you can do that on a Mac) Force quit the app, Go to the apps folder and delete it and empty trash. Look at accounts and make sure you disable it from login. Remove it from downloads folder. Done!


It is actually much harder to install this than remove it and even when installed it does not actually damage your system.

I think my dad would get this just on purpose so he would have something to complain about.

But to add to the removal process, it should be mentioned a little preventative maintenance be performed and in Safari preferences, uncheck "Open "safe" files after downloading". Also root and admin password are two totally different things. The admin password has to be entered.

Newer Macs you have the option to right click. Older ones its control+click. Actually, I'm so used to control+click that even when I'm working on my machine or a newer machine where I actually can right click I will still Control+click.
