Default New OnForce insurance requirements start today - Pros are PO'd

OnForce officially began requiring techs on its platform to accept the new contract and insurance fee requirements today.

The techs are NOT happy.

New OnForce Contract and Insurance Requirements Go Into Effect Today - Pros are PO'd

Some techs who were outraged by the new fees are refusing to accept the new terms and said they planned to stop accepting work orders altogether. A few Pros threatened to close their OnForce accounts permanently and move to other platforms, such as Work Market.

If you accept any work on OnForce, please read the new terms very carefully before you accept them.

So is onforce not a good company to work for, besides the new rules?

I have had several requests to join them, but I typically don't like working with 3rd party sources.

OnForce is what it is, but it isn't what it was.

When Jeff Leventhal founded the company in 2003 as ComputerRepair.com he set it up as a real marketplace where techs posted their rates and Buyers set their spend limits according to the rates and the two parties conducted business with little or no interference from OnForce itself.

After Jeff left the company and the VCs (venture capitalists who invested in the company) took over, the platform changed. It began to slide towards a Buyer-centric system where the techs had less and less influence on the transactions and OnForce began to meddle in - or "mediate" as they call it - the entire process. Now OnForce has transformed the system in such a way that they have essentially become a broker for the Buyers and the techs are no longer independent contractors, but sub-contractors. This new sub-contracting relationship officially launched today.

OnForce has done some other shady things to their independent contractors. They have changed a lot of their policies to favor the buyer of services and have started to ignore the technicians that are the foundation of their business model. I took a look at some of the work that was on OnForce, they are little, if at all, better than the low balling craigslist-type rates.

Good to know. Confirms my reasons to not use 3rd party sources.
