Getting paid by check:

Looks more professional when written to a business instead of an individual... ie:

You: "Ok that will be $xx"
Customer: "Who do I make the check out to?"
You: "XYZ Computer Repairs"

instead of

You: "Ok that will be $xx"
Customer: "Who do I make the check out to?"
You: "Joe Schmo"

Now in order to cash/deposit a check made out to "XYZ Computer Repairs" you need a business bank account under that name.

What if I use my personal checking account to deposit?

Then you're more of a hobbyist than a professional.


There are some here who think that you're not a 'real' businessperson unless you have a storefront. I set the bar at a business account and insurance. Until you have those, you're just practicing on people's computers.

I like repairing PC's as a hobby but would like to turn into cash flow.

You mean I have to have a store in able to a real business person?

I am also a stocks investor that I do from home and I don't have a store and do well. I believe a lot of things we do in life is business. Saving money and being frugal is business.
