Ive been wanting an android phone since they came out and managed to score myself a Galaxy S last night.
As Im a complete n00b to this OS, I wanted to ask for some assistance with a few basic questions to get myself started 1. If it gets borked, can I nuke and pave it like a PC? 2. Should I be concerned about malware? 3. What are the killer - "must have" - apps for Android? ...Particularly anything related to the PC Repair / Business stuff thanks Jim

2. Depends. Sorta, not really... Just pay attention to the permissions the app asks for in the market. 3. There was a post about this. Look it up. |

Root it asap! If the Touchwiz UI is anything like it was on the Winmo Omnia 2 then you will hate the phone.

Rooting means to enable the use of super user, since Android is Linux based. Some apps require it, for example the wireless tether app I use does. You can also remove extra factory apps that you won't use.
I think that PRITech is suggesting that you go one step further and replace the Rom with a customized Rom with a different ui. I find that most roms are either unstable or hardware doesn't work...so I just stick with the factory Rom on my phone. But then again i have an EVO shift and sense UI is awesome Honestly, unless you have a reason to root, don't do it. |

If you do decide to root the phone... and its your business phone - DON'T DO IT!
Especially if you're a noob and don't know what you're doing. Read the forums first, ask a lot of questions and get as much info about rooting FIRST. A good place to start is here: PPCGeeks If this is not your business phone then root to your heart's content. ![]() Good luck!

Sense is awesome. The only problem I have with it is that I can't figure out the vanilla UI now.
