Hi All
Having a nightmare trying to repair this pc. Running winows xp pro and has 2 accounts plus the inbuilt administrator account. One of the user accounts ia an admin account and the other is a limited. With welcome screen log on option the pc would boot up then try to automatically log on to admin account but would fail by stating " Sustem, could not log you on. make sure user name password etc etc" I took the password of the admin account but now when it boots up it goes staright to the inbuilt administrator account, which is never used. I tried changing to ctr alt del log on scenario but no change. Occasionaly, 1 in every 10 attempts, the computer will show me the other users on the welcome screen but every other time it fails to log onto inbuilt admin account, the other users are not visible on the welcome screen and I have to reboot. Tried technet for ideas but came up blank. Any of you peeps came across this or can suggest as a solution TIA |

try using TweakUI http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...ertoySetup.exe
there is a setting almost all the way down on the left for "Login". Make sure the autologin is turned off and make sure it shows all the other users on welcome screen and not the admin. Here are a couple more suggestions I found on (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/noautologon.htm): If the SHIFT key is held down during the boot process, MSGina.dll will ignore the AutoAdminLogon key value and prompt the user for identification and authentication information interactively. You can use this method to temporarily disable automatic logon at startup. Method 2 Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK. In the dialog box that appears, enable Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer check box, and then click OK. Method 3 Click Start, Run and type rundll32 netplwiz.dll,ClearAutoLogon Method 4 Use this method only if you've configured the automatic logon using the registry manually. Because, automatic logon procedure using Control Userpasswords2 or using Tweak UI does not involve Winlogon \ DefaultPassword key at all. They are stored in protected area rather. * Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ WindowsNT \ CurrentVersion \ Winlogon * Delete the DefaultPassword entry. * Double-click AutoAdminLogon, type 0 in the Value Data box, and then click OK. Thanks mate. It was set to auto login as you said. Tweak UI fixed it in a second. I've spent about 6 hours trying to research this problem and I didn't even think of using Tweak UI!!
Your help greatly appreciated ![]() ![]()
