Charge what you think you are worth. You will end up working less for the same amount or more money. You will get the better clients. That guy can take the people that you do not want. Just remember that you need to provide a service that will reflect why you are charging a higher price.

I just opened a 2nd location and I have to compete against these guys too. It sucks, but you are a bigger company and have more money that this guy does probably.
Don't spend it wrong, spend it right! Go out and find the quality contacts via networking and LinkedIn, etc. Even in a small town there are good businesses that don't want to work with the "guy who does it on the side" they want someone who works as a legit business, has contracts and most importantly...INSURANCE. Most of these guys DO NOT have anything legal going on. Use big words such as "Professional", "Insured", etc.

Bryce had an article about this kind of issue a while back, perhaps someone could dig it up for our distressed friend here.
For all we know you could be dealing with a pizza-tech with prices that low. I'm kinda skeptical of his thoroughness if he's doing less than 2 hours of viral work. And note that his condition for it being "free" means he can end at 1:59 in the process. The price he's charging at 25/hr is going to attract the unreliable computing demographic that will probably try to exploit the 2-hour guarantee anyhow. |
