Default Parallel Printer Connectivity on Vista

Does Windows Vista support a parallel printer? I was going to get a parallel to usb cable, but was told by an HP helpdesk person that Vista does not support parallel devices. He claimed also that even if I did get a Parallel to USB cable that it would still not work? Thought I'de come as some of you guys...

Anyone with experience on this issue?

The printer is a HP PSC 500. Any help would be appreciated.

A printer port works perfectly fine in vista. The HP dude probably just got a bit of misinformation somewhere.
