Default Stealing my bandwidth?

I suspect that somehow someone is redirecting my internet traffic. Why? Because when I go to some sites that recognize your location (the ones that say find a friend in your location). They report me as being in Bala Cynwyd, PA but I'm in Oklahoma. Is it possible for someone to have put something on my PC that is sending my traffic through that location?

I have ran AVG AV.
I have ran Ad-aware.
I have ran Spy-bot S&D.
I have cleaned all temp files.
I have reset my router(hard-wired type).
I have Windows Firewall enabled.

Any ideas, greatly appreciated. Thx.

hi, it may something as simple as your ISP is based in Bala Cynwyd, PA.

That would be 1 explanation.

I have experienced this before and that was the explanation given to me....

Default Some ideas...

Can you take the PC to a neighbor's house? See if the exact same thing happens there. Or can you borrow someone's dialup username and password, and see if it shows the same location? As a last resort, boot with a Knoppix disc (so as to take your hard drive and windows install out of the mix) and see what's reported.

Good luck!

I know exactly what this is.. Its nothing to worry about.

There are two ways this happens:

Geolocation: There are services that "try" to locate IP addresses to areas. This can be useful when you want to display seperate information for different people depending where they live. Google Adwords uses this so you can target people in just your state for example. These IP to Locations arent always accurate

Information Harvesting: Not always done legitimately. I believe the adult sites do this. When someone signs up to a adult site and you enter in your address. They put your physical address and your IP address into their database. After they collect many addresses during the signup phase, they then know that your IP address is based out of a certain area.

Eg: everyone in Anaheim California on a certain ISP, has the IP address 211.18.92.* .... so when the ad detects your IP address, it checks out the database for the area thats accociated with and it says "HOT WOMEN WANTING SEX TONIGHT IN ANAHEIM!!"

Anyway, its not always accurate. Nothing to worry about.
