So you want to make an image of the old xp computer, and run it as a virtual machine on your Windows 7 computer?

If so, this might be of interest?

I would imagine, by transferring between two very different sets of hardware, you will have to run a Repair Install (aka in-place upgrade) of XP once you get it running as a VM. Not positive on this, but yeah, hope it helps.
