Default Charging Dell Laptop with non-Dell Charger?

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? A lot of Dell laptops will detect whether they are connected to a Dell charger or an aftermarket one. If they decide it's an aftermarket charger you can run the computer but you can't charge the bl**dy battery! Google doesn't seem to know anyone who has fixed this, just lots of frustrated users.

This has the feel of nastiness to it on the part of Dell. I'm thinking of adding them to my "Don't Buy" list along with HP.

I have quite a bit of experience with this and will point you to this article.
Most recently I had two Inspiron 1525's owned by sisters. One had a bad DC jack and a dead HDD. Replaced the HDD and replaced the DC jack PCB (a small separate PCB from the mobo. All was good for a week then the charger was not recognized. I used all the tricks to get it to work and finally decided that it must be the charging circuit on the mobo that's bad. At least the child can use the laptop with the charger plugged in, it just won't charge the battery. Her sister's needed a DC jack and I replaced that pcb and it is golden.

I agree that the adapter recognition circuit on the Dell laptops is quite a PIA.

I've got two 1501's with the same problem. They have the original dell chargers. And I even tried the charger from my personal 1505, no luck.

I wanna sell these as used laptops, but can't until I fix this problem.
